Demi Lovato & One Direction Win Big at the VMAS
In case you missed it, THE X FACTOR - from both sides of the pond - took over the MTV Video Music Awards last night with two performances and four awards between new judge Demi Lovato and THE X FACTOR UK's third place winners for Season 7, boy band sensation One Direction.
Demi took home the first Moonman of the night during the MTV VMA Pre-Show for Best Video With a Message for her emotional "Skyscraper." "I can't even tell you what it means to me. It's so amazing that I'm actually touching one of these. I've always watched the VMAs growing up and now I'm holding one. This is crazy," she told MTV's Sway on the red carpet.
The 20-year-old superstar - looking uber-cool in a black studded leather jacket and black sparkly mini-dress - also delivered the first performance of the night during the Pre-Show with an explosive performance of her current No. 1 hit single, "Give Your Heart a Break," complete with heart-shaped red confetti, fire pots, and explosions.
Meanwhile, One Direction made quite the splash when they hit the double-decker red carpet outside of the Staples Center in Downtown L.A. Thursday night to the deafening sounds of screaming girls (and guys!). VMA host comedian Kevin Hart jokingly confused One Direction with "some Twilight kids" at the top of the Pre-Show when they started their red-carpet strut looking smashing in slick suits and charming sweaters. The guys pulled a hat trick by winning all of their three nominations for Most Share-Worthy Video and Best Pop Video for "What Makes You Beautiful" and Best New Artist. They even thanked our own Simon Cowell during their first acceptance speech of the evening! (They're signed to Simon's Syco label and their next album, Take Me Home, drops on Nov. 13 in the U.S.)
After taking home the Best New Artist award, Harry Styles messed up just a wee bit in saying, "To win one Moonman is amazing, to win two is incredible, and to perform is absolutely ridiculous, so thank you so much for having us!" Uh, Harry, sweetie, you won three Moonmen not two! It's okay. We still love you.
As for their big performance, the British and Irish singers brought their casual-cool best in jeans, tees, plaid, and blazers for a fun performance of their hit, "One Thing," while amidst a sea of squealing girls in the mosh pit who got their bounce on the second the band belted out, "Get out, get out, get out of my head!"
Needless to say, we will not be getting this night out of our head for a long time!
