And, if that's not exciting enough, Britney Spears gave us the sultry moment of the night when she sang a breathy version of "Happy Birthday" for fellow judge L.A. Reid backstage. (L.A. turned 56 on June 7!)
We also got to meet one of THE X FACTOR UK's most beloved judges, Louis Walsh, who flew in to take over Simon Cowell's seat in Kansas City, MO, when he fell ill.
All right our little Factor Freaks, we've got a slew of acts to get to, so without further adieu, meet the Lucky 13 who made it through:
Kansas City, MO, auditions:
Rizzloe Jones: (18, recent grad, Kansas City): Yes, Rizzloe is his given name and positive rapping is his chosen game. He decided to freestyle it - complete with off-the-cuff lyrics about THE X FACTOR and a nod to Brit's "Oops!...I Did It Again" - and it paid off with four yeses. "I felt like you were a young Vanilla Ice Ice Baby," said Britney. "Rizzloe, like your flow," said L.A.
CeCe Frey: (20, mail clerk, Decatur, IL): Oh, this girl has some serious 'tude going but the judges dug it. Backstage, she admitted trying to push the buttons of her competition. Onstage, Demi Lovato was relieved that CeCe's leopard facial ink was just makeup. She started out with "Unchained Melody" only to be stopped because, well, it wasn't going great. Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" did the trick, though. "You have the whole package," said Britney. Demi admitted to having a girl crush on her. Louis liked her ambition.
Vino Alan: (39, musician, Waynesville, MO): Unlike CeCe, this hopeful DID have facial (and head) tattoos, which Demi called "sick." His soulful blues voice on "Trouble" was truly sick and got the struggling father four green lights. "I did hear something rather unique in your voice," said L.A. "I was inspired," confessed Britney." "It shocked me," added Demi.
Tate Stevens: (37, road worker, Belton, MO): Giddy up! We got our first country star of the season. He belted out Randy Houser's "Anything Goes" to the delight of our four judges. "You blew me away with your voice," said Demi. "We found ourselves a country star," said Louis. "You're my favorite so far," gushed Britney. "You really are good, man!" said L.A. "You are a true country star." True dat.
San Francisco auditions:
Citizen: (five guys ages 21-25, Los Angeles): Five cute guys who can sing and dance make the girls in the audience squeal? The next One Direction perhaps? Not if you ask Simon. He was the lone "no" in a sea of "yeses" after the group nailed En Vogue's "Don't Let Go." L.A. "really liked it." Britney thought they "totally rocked." Demi dug the harmonies. But, Simon said, "I didn't get it. It felt 10 years out of date... Guys, it's like you're in a time machine for me." Ouch! Whatevs! They made it through.
Diamond White: (13, student, Detroit-raised, Los Angeles-based): She might of sung "It's a Man's World," but tonight, it was Diamond's world. Simon challenged her from the get-go, saying, "You have to be fantastic," to which she sweetly replied, "I will. I promise." And, guess what? She was! "Your mother got it right, you are a diamond," said L.A. "You have a sparkle in your eye," said Demi. "You totally brought it," said Britney." "You just blew the roof off here," said Simon.
Ally Brooke: (19, San Antonio, TX): After the first few notes of her take on "On My Knees" by Jaci Velasquez, it was clear she had the X factor. But even after the music stopped, Ally kept singing and singing and singing until Simon finally had to flag her down to stop. L.A. was impressed. Demi was blown away. Britney was surprised. And Simon said, "I have a feeling that we're looking at a future star here."
Brandon Hassan: (16, student, Irving, TX): Brandon delivered a wise-beyond-his-years version of the blues song "Trouble." Britney said his voice was "sexy." Wait, he's 16! Simon "really, really" liked him. All four said yes.
Normani Hamilton: (15, student, Houston, TX): Normani tackled Aretha Franklin's "Chain of Fools" and the challenging song choice paid off with advancement onto Boot Camp. Demi thought she had "the 'It' factor." Uh, did you mean she has the X factor?
Sister C: (three sisters, Mont Belvieu, TX): If you could clone Carrie Underwood three times, it would be these three girls. Simon said he's been looking for a group like them for a long time. The rocked Pistol Annies' "Hell on Heels." Oh, and by the way, they are named Sister C because they are indeed sisters and their names all start with the letter C. How clever. ;-)
Jeremiah & Josh (both aged 22, Austin): They dared to perform an original song titled "Now Life Starts" and with four yeses under their belts, their lives might just be starting now indeed! Britney especially like the duo, calling their voices "magical" and so soothing that she wished they "could make me up in the morning." Uh, say again?? Demi laughed, "Hey-oh!" Josh said back: "We wish we could wake you up in the morning!" A red-faced Britney explained, "Singing! Singing!" #awkward!
Panda Ross: (42, barista, Dallas): What a character! Though she had just been hospitalized for seven days with pneumonia, she did Sam Cooke's "Bring it On Home" good and got four yeses. Sporting a gold "Single" necklace, she told Simon, "Hey, Simon. I'm your baby mama. You my boo!" Simon was enthralled by her name. "I've always wanted a panda," he said while putting her through. "I can't deny how good that was," said L.A. But, just after walking off stage, her sickness got the best of her and she needed help breathing. In came the paramedics and out went Panda on a stretcher in an ambulance. (Don?t worry, she has since made a full recovery)
Jessica Espinoza: (22, unemployed, South Side of San Antonio, TX): Last, but never least, came Jessica with a big voice full of feeling giving Pink's "Nobody Knows" a go. The judges loved it! Demi once again noticed a sparkle in her eyes. Britney thought she was really deep, and L.A. was impressed. Then Simon had to mess with her a bit saying, "I didn't like it. [Dramatic pause] I loved it!"
We loved you all too.
Oh, and about that arrest we mentioned. Here's what went down: Deangelo Wallace, a cocky 19-year-old student who claimed to be better than Britney and Justin Bieber, totally massacred Chris Brown's "With You." It was so bad that all four judges WALKED OUT! He kept on singing and then ended up taking off with the $3,000 THE X FACTOR microphone. The cops came and he was hauled off in a police car. Good times.
Up tomorrow night: Greensboro, NC, auditions! Tune in at 8/7c on FOX!
