Frustrated that there's really great pop music out there, but not really great rock music, the 18-year-old rock chick says, "My biggest goal is to put rock music back on the radio. Where is the great rock music now?"
Well, the rock music's in Jennel Garcia for sure! At Auditions, she did an edgy and sexy performance of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals' "If I Was From Paris," rocked out on Gavin DeGraw's "Sweeter" at Boot Camp, put out her sultry side on Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" at Judges' Homes, and turned into a true rock star with Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home" at Live Shows, which earned her a spot in the Top 12.
"The artist I am is like a newer present day Pat Benatar," she explains. "I also love Joan Jett and her tough look. I really like '80s rock. I love when women take on what guys normally do and then just do it better. And I feel like that's what they did with rock and roll."
That said, Jennel does have an edgy pop side too. "Lady Gaga is just so different and I love that about her cause I'm different. I love how she's strong-minded and doesn't care what people think," she adds.
As for Jennel's future rock record of her own, she says, "I want my records to be edgy, but I like a variety too. Some harder rock some ballads mixed in with some a little more dancey, but all still rock and roll."
