"I like this part of the show because this is when you get to separate from the other judges," he said. "You are one-on-one. You're in much more control of the situation. You're choosing the material. You're in very close proximity to the artist. You get to know more about them. And, it's kind of intimate, so it's one of my favorite parts of the show."
Simon said that it's at Judges' Homes where he can really start to get a feel for who's got that "winner's potential" and "star quality." "There's a comparison thing, which is really important. You get to see one group after another very quickly and you see who's' got it and you also see who hasn't got it."
This year, his contestants joined him with guest mentor international Latin/pop superstar Marc Anthony in Miami, FL. "I love Miami. And there's something about the air in Miami, which makes people feel good. So I think it adds a certain kind of crackle to the atmosphere," he added.
He was also happy to get the Groups category. "Genuinely, I can say I was happy to get them. I'm not saying it's the easiest category to work with. It's easier to work with solo artists than groups," he explained. "But I have a good track record of groups throughout my career running a record label and I like working with groups. And just this year I think we've got great potential. I really feel that."
