Congrats on being back to No. 1 in the rankings!
Thanks. You know, I wanted to be back. Yeah, I did! I'm happy. I think doing the Garth [Brooks] song is what did it. The fans were like, yeah, that's what he does. No more rock. It's all country, country now!
What is your game plan to win this thing?
Bring the best, the most entertaining, and just do what I do and hopefully that gets me there. That's all I can do. I can't worry about what other acts are doing. I just have to do what I do best, and that's what we're doing this week.
What can you tease about your two song choices this week?
I picked a great song for me. L.A. picked a great song for me. We agreed on both, which is always great. We actually changed my song yesterday. It was a great change. In mentoring yesterday, we kind of figured something out. He said, 'I don't think that's it. I don't think that's the right one.' So, we came up with another one and it is definitely the right one.
Are the songs more traditional or contemporary country this week?
It's both. They are both contemporary songs. But, stylistically, one is more traditional sounding.
Is one more up-tempo and danceable?
A lot up-tempo.
So, you'll be dancing despite what Simon Cowell said a few weeks back?
[Laughs] I will dance a little bit. It's going to be fun. I'm hoping to get Simon to dance.
With this being a make it or break it week, are you more nervous or excited?
Both. We worked our butts off, everyone has, and to be this close, it's tangible. It's a tangible thing now. It's so exciting, but I'm also kind of scared a little bit, like, ahhh, if I don't do my best and I don't bring it, it's over.
Your biggest fear if you don't do your best?
Going back to my day job. I don't even want to think about it!
